WEEK ONE: EXECUTION
WEEK ONE: EXECUTION
Morning dawns bright and early the day after the trial, but there's no time to wait. As it rises and settles in the sky, the low, deep thrumming sound echoes throughout the entire island, which turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.
It is then that the lighthouse beacon becomes illuminated, drawing them all to the southern beach. That same voice as before rings, audible throughout the entire island.
The voice grows quiet, and Giyuu and Zoe will feel themselves drawn toward the lighthouse. While the rest of the group may resist its call, they may find themselves curious or unable to stop themselves from following the pair to the southern beach.
Nothing can be done to stop these proceedings. Even for those who try to jump in, they will find themselves weighed down as if falling into quicksand. This burden is Giyuu's to bear and Giyuu's alone.
It's time to say goodbye.

"The time has come to dispatch your sacrifice. All are welcome to witness this choice. Giyuu Tomioka, you have been selected to bear this responsibility. And Zoe...no running away, now."

GIYUU & ZOE

She trusts that the Celestials will bring her back, no matter what occurs here. Maybe in a different form. Maybe as a different person.
Or maybe it's just that death is too abstract a concept for someone who's been twelve years old for the last thousand years. ]
You guys are really bad at this stuff.

this is his responsibility. she is part of jungle camp—the camp he had appointed himself to. maybe that's why he gives her a moment to say anything else other than the mercy of a blade. ]
This stuff?
[ easily, he draws his sword from its sheath and holds it steady by his side, the blade blue like the ocean. ]
no subject
[ But who is she to judge, I guess! ]
no subject
Maybe.
[ he thinks of a conversation he had last night and raises he blade just slightly. one final exchange before he acts. ]
I'll make this quick.

[ Your compassion is meaningless when you're still going to kill! She just wants you to know that!
But she's accepted her doom. (Again, out of disbelief that it 'counts' for her. But still.) ]

this wouldn't be the first nor would it be the last time someone would comment on how "nice" he is (or more like how he isn't), but somehow it weighs on him more than it normally would. maybe it's because there's absolute no certainty that she did kill anaido. maybe it's because she's a child. who really can tell, but giyuu keeps walking ever closer to zoe without changing much of his stance.
it's not until the very last moment as he's stands just before—his eyes looking beyond her—does he put both hands onto the handle as he takes an effortless swing at her neck with every intention of decapitating her. it's an action he has done countless of times by now. the "kindest" way he knows how to kill. sure, all of those targets have been demons but—
this is his responsibility. his heart does not waver and neither does his blade. ]

The voice does not come again with further instructions. It seems you have all survived this first week.]

he moves a hand over her face to close her eyes before kneeling over to pick up her body. just as he handled marie with care, he handles zoe's body with that same level of concern and care. he will bring her inland to be laid to rest and not leave her to be taken to the sea. ]
no subject
May I help, Tomioka?
[This is not a task for him to go at alone. They all had a part in what happened here, whether or not they were willing. Should anyone else volunteer to help, Mitsuri will give a grateful nod as she assists Tomioka.]
no subject
If you'd like.
[ he's not putting up any kind of resistance. a bit useless for that, right? there's only so much any single person can do in this situation and then there's how this means for others to do something. ]
no subject
[ There isn't so much of a question in her voice. She's helping. ]

standing sentry with the others that have been gathered is yin yu, as quiet as ever, mask back in place on his face. he bows his head in greeting to giyuu, in acknowledgement, his shovel in hand. ]
Is there a particular spot on the island to lay the bodies to rest?
no subject
I'm not sure.
[ he looks down at zoe's body as though there is an answer within her small frame. of course there isn't but with the number of them— ]
Somewhere they wouldn't be disturbed.
no subject
[ as properly as they can, anyway. he looks to zoe's body, too, biting his cheek under his mask. a god, she said.... ]
no subject
Perhaps somewhere in the middle of the three locations.
[ that would leave them being near the bridge and another fresh water source but... since they were all from various camps, it would be best for that, right? ]
ISLANDER COMMENTARY
no subject
... Did we make a mistake?
[Unfortunate.]

When she walked up to the beach, there was no smile on her face, but now even the most unobservant can tell her smile is something thin and brittle to cover up whatever else she's feeling. ]
We've made many.

... If there's really an afterlife, and there are truly ghosts on this island... They'll be right to hate us.
no subject
They would. We can't change what happened, but we can change what happens next.
no subject
We... have to find a way to break the curse before our time runs out, Kocho-san. Even... Even if I don't know where we would start looking for its origin, we have to.
no subject
[ Whether she says that to affirm or to reassure is hard to say, but is anything about this situation reassuring? ]
We do. [ Her conviction makes her voice sharp. ] I want to give these two the respect they deserve. [ Even if this entire execution is anything but respectful to the both of them. ] If you would give me some time after this, we can discuss it in further detail.
[ aka please give me a pc kyuu ]
I won't concede.
no subject
Mm, he doesn't look like the kind who enjoys... cruelty.
[Unlike, you know, certain people. You know who you are, you jerks. :/ ]
I'll be happy to speak with you after this. I want to get to the bottom of this, too. I really do.
[opens arms wide for pcs]
no subject
This is bullshit...
no subject
She clasps her hands and bows her head, though, and speaks quietly to herself as she watches the execution.]
...may the Goddess watch over you and guide you to eternal peace...
