week two: mingle

WEEK TWO

The sun rises after a treacherous weekend on the island. The hours have passed almost seamlessly since your arrival, though it's difficult to say what time it truly is. You've buried the dead and mourned for them. You've formed alliances and staked your claims. You've survived another week...isn't that what counts?

Regardless of how you spend your morning, as the sun reaches the highest point in the sky all will begin to hear a low, deep thrumming sort of sound. The humming slowly turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.

It's then all will hear an unidentifiable voice:

"Ah...so glad to see you alive and well. Your numbers are dwindling, but perhaps not fast enough. You have one more week before all shall be lost. Eleven sacrifices must be made to ensure the survival of those remaining. Extensions will not be granted.

Oh...and one more thing. One of you has played your part well to orchestrate the ritual. I do wonder what would happen if you were caught? Perhaps you will find out soon...if they catch you."

Just as quickly as it came, the announcement comes to a close. No matter how hard one searches the island, it will be impossible to locate the source of the announcement. But don't let that stop you. Maybe it's time for a deeper exploration? Make the best of your daylight hours.

After all...when the night falls, things may be a little different. Watch your backs, everyone.

Welcome to week two! Congratulations on surviving the weekend, and welcome to the final week!

At this time, characters are free to further explore the island! Please use the Week 2 header for all Week 2 requests. All comments will be screened, but please be as thorough as possible in your requests. We also ask that if you change anything in the setting, please report it here.

On Wednesday, your modteam will post A THING that will impact all in-game. Stay tuned.

i. jungle campers

[If Ryuji is anything, he's stubborn as shit and persistent. He's made a little fire again at Jungle Camp, something adequate without being extra.

Unfortunately, he has once more sacrificed his hands to do it.] Now let's see if some crazy ass storm blows it out... Geez. [He's dipping his hands into what must be sea water collected in a giant palm leaf; his wincing face betrays the sting on his raw hands.]

Yo! [He glances up at whoever is nearby, or whoever wanders by. His "yo" sadly sounds more morose than usual, like he's tired.] Don't let the fire go out, okay? I'm gonna go find us some food.

ii. he's finding the food?

[Well, no one sees hide nor hair of Ryuji for some time. But then anyone near the jungle forest can hear the growing snap of branches and brush. A sort of warbling noise of fear rises up--

A bright yellow shirt breaks out of the forest at a full sprint. His leg isn't great, but he was a track guy for a reason. As soon as he hits the clearing, though, he trips and goes skidding across the ground. A very crude spear tumbles just out of reach.

The snapping noise is still coming steadily from behind...?]

Watch out! It's a boar!

Just kidding, it's one of the island pigs. It's coming.]

[Run, Ryuji, run!

Unfortunately, Seteth is not here to be Flayn's braincell, so when she sees him run out of the jungle yelling about a boar, she darts forward to pick up his spear from where he dropped it and puts herself between him and his pursuer, sharp side pointed ahead of her.]

Stay back, creature!

[I'm sorry she's trying to fight this pig for Ryuji's honor, or something.]

monday meeting

[ What's up, island fam? We somehow have both an island daddy and mommy now. Please defer to one of the Persona 5s for your island designation.

Sometime earlier today, either Shinobu, Mitsuri, or both of them if you want both of them, will reach out to people about having a meeting outside the Waterfall camp. It's a midway point on the island, and Shinobu refuses to have it at the southern beach where they've been forced to gather.

As Shinobu did during the trial, she claps her hands. She, as always, has a smile on her face and begins, composed yet pleasant. ]

Hello, everyone! Thank you for listening and agreeing to come. That unknown voice told us that someone is a murderer and wants us to be murderers.

[ How lovely! How fun! ]

We only have a week left, so what I wanted to ask is how do you all want to finish this? I know we can be civilized and discuss this without resorting to murder— although some of you may have some difficulties with that, don't worry! I'm here to support you being a reasonable individual.

[ She laughs and raises her tiny fists like she's cheering you murderers (you know who you are) on. ]

We can look for another method, another way. There is still time. If we all talk about what we've found out, we can think about where we should look more deeply. How about it?

[ Her almost too cheery smile fades to something more serene, and there's steel behind the look in her eyes. ]

I do want as many of us to leave as possible, but if you want to follow the ritual, you may as well tell us all now.

[Flayn looks thoughtful. A little uncomfortable, but thoughtful. She isn't sure how to phrase exactly what she's thinking of, but... she'll try it. A little after Shinobu finishes, she speaks up.]

If I am being honest... I have been doing some thinking about what the voice said earlier today.

[She swallows hard.]

To say that someone orchestrated something... is different than to say they participated in it, is it not? It seemed to me that it was saying that one of us is...

[Her voice trails off.]

...more involved than the rest of us.

[wisterin]

[ And because she puts her money where her mouth off, she will share some information. ]

As for what I've found, I went searching into the caverns a couple times. I found some abandoned camps, likely decades old. Deeper inside, I found a cove with what looked like a skeleton trying to climb out of a shallow lake. There was dried blood along the shore and rocks. I was attacked by snakes before I could investigate more.

[ Hooray! ]

In another section of the cavern, I found an open area with something that looked like an altar. There were blood splatters all over, and small animal skeletons shattered in pieces around the area. Before I could examine further, I was attacked by animated skeletons.

[ Delightful! ]

In the jungle, while I was looking for plants and fruits, I found some ground that was disturbed, but before I could check what was there, a wild boar came to chase me out.

[ Thanks, Dimitri! ]

[She's grateful to Shinobu for setting up this meeting, and she's about to chime in herself when Flayn says something very...hm. Interesting.]

...what makes you say that? [Her words are crafted carefully, though she appears equally thoughtful.] I agree with you, but then to what degree would someone be more involved, do you think?

[Sadly, this is about as helpful as Flayn can be right now.]

But to orchestrate means to... direct the way that something will happen, does it not? If there is someone like that among us, then...

[She bites her lip, then shakes her head. She's not sure how to finish that sentence.]

[ as the above suggest, Minako's out of her usual do today! her various hair ties and bobby pins are piled next to her, and all her hair is wild and free and tumbling to past her shoulders!

it's also frizzy and starting to look greasy. finger combing can only go so far, it seems.

Minako lifts a chunk of it up to inspect, frowning, until whoever approaches prompts her to glance up. ]

Do you have your knife on you?

b) nighttime

[ she's at the ruins, perched on a rock, waiting. she'll be here all week. if you approach, she'll just smile absently and return to her watch.

wow, it's almost like she's looking for senpai something ]

Then, that someone is most guilty.

[ She finishes it. ]

[Flayn is quiet for a few long moments...

...and then she nods.]

Well, then.

She will chime in here, because this seems. Bad.]

Then... Doesn't it stand to reason that, whoever this person is, is responsible for us being in this situation? To say someone orchestrated something... Isn't that the same as saying they they're responsible for setting all of this up?

[She nods slowly, still looking a little unsure.]

The voice used words such as... cooperation and participation, before. This feels different to me.

...of course, if I am wrong, then I do not wish to cast suspicion where there ought to be none, but...

There are many ways that could've been phrased, if it were accidental.

[ She tilts her head to side. ]

There is a possibility the voice could be inciting us to be paranoid about one another and spur us to murder more for the ritual, but...

[ That's what they're here to find out, isn't it? ]

[well, she might be looking for something...

but what she gets-- or who she gets, rather-- is probably pretty different!

there's a familiar, ghostly shape here, though something is... off. is he a little shorter?

no, his head just isn't on his shoulders. it's held in his hands, the expression on his face a little hesitant, a little apologetic.

he doesn't say anything, though. he's just... here, watching.]

[She sighs heavily.]

I was unsure if I should share my thoughts for that reason. But... if it is not merely a way to incite us to spill more blood, what then...?

[Yeah, that's a mood. Neena looks just as uncertain as Flayn does.]

If it's true, and one of us is behind this, then they might be able to free us if we corner them. But...

[She trails off, sighing.]

I'm really worried about the reason why they've revealed this to us now. There's only one that makes sense to me, and it's not good.

Playing into our fears and aiming to weaken our resolve seems to be the nature of the curse, doesn't it?

[ is it even worth to call a curse anymore? he's only here to add two cents, please do not rely on him to handle much more. ]

[ She leans closer, so if Flayn only wants to whisper it, she can. ]

[ Giyuu, you are a PILLAR, who has said on record, "pillars must act as pillars." ]

It could do that and be telling the truth. The ritual had to start somehow. Whether if it's because of someone we know or not is what we must find out.

well, he hasn't experienced one first hand and he's definitely not going to be bothered even if one comes up to him (probably). besides, he is, now more than ever, making it a point to keep an eye on the people who have managed to get this far.

come, take a stroll with island dad? or not. it's fine. no feelings are hurt here, also why are you even up this late? he'll be stalking around the jungle camp, of course, and all of the area between there and the bridge that leads into other side of the island. ]

... They want to dissuade any sort of cooperation, by planting the idea that there's a traitor among us. Even if we don't kill each other before our time is up, they'll have won anyway if we're too busy doubting each other to find another way.

[She swallows hard, then lowers her voice.]

I want us all to be able to go home. I do not want eleven people to have to die for that. ...but I am not sure how what I was thinking of would lead to that outcome.
