week two: mingle
WEEK TWO
The sun rises after a treacherous weekend on the island. The hours have passed almost seamlessly since your arrival, though it's difficult to say what time it truly is. You've buried the dead and mourned for them. You've formed alliances and staked your claims. You've survived another week...isn't that what counts?
Regardless of how you spend your morning, as the sun reaches the highest point in the sky all will begin to hear a low, deep thrumming sort of sound. The humming slowly turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.
It's then all will hear an unidentifiable voice:
Just as quickly as it came, the announcement comes to a close. No matter how hard one searches the island, it will be impossible to locate the source of the announcement. But don't let that stop you. Maybe it's time for a deeper exploration? Make the best of your daylight hours.
After all...when the night falls, things may be a little different. Watch your backs, everyone.

"Ah...so glad to see you alive and well. Your numbers are dwindling, but perhaps not fast enough. You have one more week before all shall be lost. Eleven sacrifices must be made to ensure the survival of those remaining. Extensions will not be granted.
Oh...and one more thing. One of you has played your part well to orchestrate the ritual. I do wonder what would happen if you were caught? Perhaps you will find out soon...if they catch you."

[If Ryuji is anything, he's stubborn as shit and persistent. He's made a little fire again at Jungle Camp, something adequate without being extra.
Unfortunately, he has once more sacrificed his hands to do it.] Now let's see if some crazy ass storm blows it out... Geez. [He's dipping his hands into what must be sea water collected in a giant palm leaf; his wincing face betrays the sting on his raw hands.]
Yo! [He glances up at whoever is nearby, or whoever wanders by. His "yo" sadly sounds more morose than usual, like he's tired.] Don't let the fire go out, okay? I'm gonna go find us some food.
ii. he's finding the food?
[Well, no one sees hide nor hair of Ryuji for some time. But then anyone near the jungle forest can hear the growing snap of branches and brush. A sort of warbling noise of fear rises up--
A bright yellow shirt breaks out of the forest at a full sprint. His leg isn't great, but he was a track guy for a reason. As soon as he hits the clearing, though, he trips and goes skidding across the ground. A very crude spear tumbles just out of reach.
The snapping noise is still coming steadily from behind...?]
Watch out! It's a boar!
[It's Dimitri.
Just kidding, it's one of the island pigs. It's coming.]
ii
Unfortunately, Seteth is not here to be Flayn's braincell, so when she sees him run out of the jungle yelling about a boar, she darts forward to pick up his spear from where he dropped it and puts herself between him and his pursuer, sharp side pointed ahead of her.]
Stay back, creature!
[I'm sorry she's trying to fight this pig for Ryuji's honor, or something.]

that said, while giyuu is more than fine with watching a fire— ]
What kind of food are you going to be forging for?
[ that's such a dad question. ]

ii!
The boar charges into the heart of the clearing soon after, and something needs to be done about it. Wild pigs could gore even the most seasoned hunters to death—they'd need to put this creature down.
His makeshift spear is fashioned with a long dagger at the end, and he grabs it, tagging the boar as it passes with a quick stab to its hind. It isn't enough to even cripple it, but it does toss its head, enraged, skidding several feet to a stop. ]

monday meeting
Sometime earlier today, either Shinobu, Mitsuri, or both of them if you want both of them, will reach out to people about having a meeting outside the Waterfall camp. It's a midway point on the island, and Shinobu refuses to have it at the southern beach where they've been forced to gather.
As Shinobu did during the trial, she claps her hands. She, as always, has a smile on her face and begins, composed yet pleasant. ]
Hello, everyone! Thank you for listening and agreeing to come. That unknown voice told us that someone is a murderer and wants us to be murderers.
[ How lovely! How fun! ]
We only have a week left, so what I wanted to ask is how do you all want to finish this? I know we can be civilized and discuss this without resorting to murder— although some of you may have some difficulties with that, don't worry! I'm here to support you being a reasonable individual.
[ She laughs and raises her tiny fists like she's cheering you murderers (you know who you are) on. ]
We can look for another method, another way. There is still time. If we all talk about what we've found out, we can think about where we should look more deeply. How about it?
[ Her almost too cheery smile fades to something more serene, and there's steel behind the look in her eyes. ]
I do want as many of us to leave as possible, but if you want to follow the ritual, you may as well tell us all now.

If I am being honest... I have been doing some thinking about what the voice said earlier today.
[She swallows hard.]
To say that someone orchestrated something... is different than to say they participated in it, is it not? It seemed to me that it was saying that one of us is...
[Her voice trails off.]
...more involved than the rest of us.

As for what I've found, I went searching into the caverns a couple times. I found some abandoned camps, likely decades old. Deeper inside, I found a cove with what looked like a skeleton trying to climb out of a shallow lake. There was dried blood along the shore and rocks. I was attacked by snakes before I could investigate more.
[ Hooray! ]
In another section of the cavern, I found an open area with something that looked like an altar. There were blood splatters all over, and small animal skeletons shattered in pieces around the area. Before I could examine further, I was attacked by animated skeletons.
[ Delightful! ]
In the jungle, while I was looking for plants and fruits, I found some ground that was disturbed, but before I could check what was there, a wild boar came to chase me out.
[ Thanks, Dimitri! ]

Now, you said we have time, but at what point is it appropriate to cut your losses? If you really want to save as many as possible, there's a point when you'll have to follow what the ritual demands.
[And he smiles, slightly.]
I suppose I'm just curious what you all plan to do should it come to that.

[ as the above suggest, Minako's out of her usual do today! her various hair ties and bobby pins are piled next to her, and all her hair is wild and free and tumbling to past her shoulders!
it's also frizzy and starting to look greasy. finger combing can only go so far, it seems.
Minako lifts a chunk of it up to inspect, frowning, until whoever approaches prompts her to glance up. ]
Do you have your knife on you?

but what she gets-- or who she gets, rather-- is probably pretty different!
there's a familiar, ghostly shape here, though something is... off. is he a little shorter?
no, his head just isn't on his shoulders. it's held in his hands, the expression on his face a little hesitant, a little apologetic.
he doesn't say anything, though. he's just... here, watching.]

[ if everything that he's heard so far has been true, there's something about hanging out at night that's poorly advised, right? zombie-ghost-things that go "waka waka" and all of that...
well, he hasn't experienced one first hand and he's definitely not going to be bothered even if one comes up to him (probably). besides, he is, now more than ever, making it a point to keep an eye on the people who have managed to get this far.
come, take a stroll with island dad? or not. it's fine. no feelings are hurt here, also why are you even up this late? he'll be stalking around the jungle camp, of course, and all of the area between there and the bridge that leads into other side of the island. ]

[Mitsuri spends the better part of the day after the meeting picking plants on the way to the beach, where she climbs the trees for their coconuts and leaves. Using the latter, she weaves simple baskets the size of her head; then deposits the fruits into them and visits the Cavern Camp, Jungle Camp, and finally her own Waterfall Camp.
To whomever she encounters first in each camp, she sets the other basket(s) down to offer the one.]
We mustn't lose our spirits. Please take these and share them with everyone!
Monday & Tuesday evenings
[It's time for flexibility training by the waterfall! Sitting atop a particularly large rock with her haori laid beside her, Mitsuri engages in a series of stretches. Beside the rock, on the ground, is a tiny woven basket of berries.
It's once she's raised her leg behind her, forming a straight line with her body in an effortless arabesque, that she notices company. She lowers her foot and straightens.]

[After the super fun and productive team meeting, Ogata can be found lurking about in the jungle. Weird and shady! He's notably not wearing his uniform jacket, probably due to the humid warmth of the jungle, with the sleeves of his dress shirt rolled up to his elbows.
If you actually go investigate what he's up to, you'll find he's setting traps. Most are snares, but he will be at various points be working on one or two fairly shallow pitfall traps. Why is he doing this? Why does Ogata do anything.]
[Tuesday evening.]
[Back in his uniform, though he hasn't buttoned the jacket up at the point. Ogata's sitting at the riverbank a bit away from his usual post outside waterfall camp, near the island with that weird, ominous dead tree. He's got his rifle in his lap but he mostly seems to be zoning out a bit. Still, if you get close, he'll speak up as if to prove you're not catching him offguard.]
It's a bit of a strange sight, don't you think? If you could get past the river you could probably even hide a body in the hollow of it.

Eventually, though, once the morning starts to give way to the afternoon, something happens. Specifically, Neena will stab down — and pull a fish out of the water. This turn of events is apparently so shocking that Neena stays very, very still for several seconds, her mouth hanging open. When she reacts, it's with an extraordinarily incredulous:]
—I did it?!
[What the fuck.]
option b: monday sunset to evening.

A THING...WEDNESDAY MORNING;
[It’s a quiet and almost peaceful day on the island. The sunshine is warm and bright, the ocean waves lap gently across the shore, and the air smells crisp and a little salty. If you pretend hard enough, it may even feel like a tropical paradise stretches before you.
In the later part of the morning, however, something begins to change. It starts innocently enough at first with pieces of splintered wood washing ashore. Soon, larger items begin to join the wood such as canned goods, water-logged clothing and blankets, and even some small supplies such as soap and shampoo. They’re a bit diluted thanks to the ocean, but they’re yours for the taking. The longer you stay at the beach, the quicker the items wash up for anyone to claim.
But not long after, a small sound from overhead may draw your attention as several small parcels sail down onto the island via parachute. They may land in the camps, or in the trees, or even miss entirely and land in the water for you to chase. But as you open these parcels you’ll find that the contents may not be what you anticipated. Items such as sharp hunting knives, arrows, and even some items such as axes will begin to litter the ground.
This storm of supplies will continue until sundown, the initial flurry slowing down in the afternoon to one or two item drops every ten minutes or so. Isn’t it fortunate that you’ve received these gifts? After all…it’s easier to participate in the ritual with the appropriate tools.
Enjoy, everyone.]

Guess Neena will start stacking items on the beach as they start to wash up with more frequency. A girl has never been so happy to see shampoo and soap in her life? Feel free to help her. Or, you know, steal something from the stacks.]

A THING....
[It’s hard to say what happened the night before. One moment you were settled down, or perhaps you were exploring the island again. The next, however, you found yourself in a dreamless, deep sleep with no explanation. On Friday morning as the sun begins to rise all will begin to hear a low, deep thrumming sort of sound. The humming slowly turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.
It's then all will hear an unidentifiable voice:]
[And just like that, the voice disappears. No matter how hard they look, they will not find a source. It will become clear to all that a trial must take place…and failure to execute one of their own will bring upon a fate unlike any other.
In addition, the group at large will notice that C-3PO is missing. Regardless of how hard they look, they will not find any trace of him across the island.
Rest up, castaways. You’ll have a big day tomorrow.]
