week one: mingle
WEEK ONE
The sun rises on your third day on the island. The hours have passed almost seamlessly since your arrival, though it's difficult to say what time it truly is. The previously roaring sea has calmed to gentle, rocking waves and the weather is prime for taking a swim. Have you settled into your camps? Made a few friends? Perhaps now is the time to meet and greet those you haven't spoken to yet...it's not as if you'll be going anywhere anytime soon.
Regardless of how you spend your morning, as the sun reaches the highest point in the sky all will begin to hear a low, deep thrumming sort of sound. The humming slowly turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.
It's then all will hear an unidentifiable voice:
Just as quickly as it came, the announcement comes to a close. No matter how hard one searches the island, it will be impossible to locate the source of the announcement. But don't let that stop you. Maybe it's time for a deeper exploration? Make the best of your daylight hours.
After all...when the night falls, things may be a little different. Watch your backs, everyone.

"Welcome aboard. Your arrival is no mistake, and your will is your own. All of you have been brought to this island to partake in an ancient ritual. No more than ten of your own may leave this island alive; eleven of you must be prepared and offered as sacrifices to ensure the survival of these ten. If you run out of time, the outcome for all will be dire. You have two weeks' time before all shall be lost."
Just as quickly as it came, the announcement comes to a close. No matter how hard one searches the island, it will be impossible to locate the source of the announcement. But don't let that stop you. Maybe it's time for a deeper exploration? Make the best of your daylight hours.

OOC NOTES
Welcome to week one! Congratulations on surviving the weekend, we're excited to get the game rolling!
At this time, characters are now free to further explore the island! All comments will be screened, but please be as thorough as possible in your requests.
On Wednesday, your modteam will post A THING that will impact all in-game. Stay tuned, and perhaps it's best to set your prompts for Monday and Tuesday...
...speaking of prompts, please specify if your prompts are in the day or during the night on this mingle! This may be in your header, or you may specify in your comment itself. There may be a fun surprise or two waiting for you.
And finally, please be sure to submit any weekend PCs to the appropriate subthread on the PC page, and please be sure to submit week one PCs as they're created! If you have not mass added everyone, please be sure to do so.
Please feel free to ask questions in the question channel on Discord, or you may DM Britt & Ty privately. We will also have announcements regarding curfew and body announcement on Thursday and Friday. Thank you, and have fun!

[See Flayn.
See Flayn gripping tightly to a tree for dear life because the storm is threatening to sweep her away.
Her mouth is moving, like she's shouting for help, but it's difficult to hear over the roar of the storm. yikes!]
whew, shelter;
[tbh Flayn is reckless enough to venture out from one shelter spot to another to go and make sure everyone is safe and accounted for, so. This can feasibly be in whatever shelter your character would have found.
Flayn drags herself in to wherever you are like a half-drowned cat and just flops facedown on the nearest open, dry surface.]
That was... quite unpleasant... [TO PUT IT MILDLY] Is anyone here injured...?
bad decisions - for dimitri;
[BUT BEFORE ALL THAT.
The flash of lightning is impossible to miss - and the way a figure collapses into the sound and begins to be swept out to sea by the waves, even more so. Perhaps foolishly, she abandons her careful trek to the nearest shelter and darts for the beach, fighting to stay upright and not get knocked about by the wind and rain.
If her body is truly swept out to sea, that's just too sad. She can't allow it. She really, really can't.
Getting there may be easier said than done, though.]

His stomach does a flip when it lands. He does not recognize the felled figure. But he does recognize that bright, mint head of hair on a girl throwing herself out into the storm, and the terrible pit of dread in his chest fizzles out into alarm. ] Flayn!
[ And there he goes, darting back right as she passes. They may have just witnessed someone fall victim to the storm, but will that stop them from stepping right back into it? No. He grabs her by the sleeve, having to shout over the rain. ]
What are you doing—!? [ (he asks, like he weren't about to do the same.) ]
no subject
Unhand me! I am going to help that girl!
[Maomao is beyond help at this point, but that won't stop Flayn from trying, and it likely won't stop Dimitri from trying, either. Deep down, she knows that, which is why she doesn't struggle too hard; they're going to need their strength if they do end up pursuing her body into the waves.
She's sure she can convince him with words alone.]
no subject
But his eyes flick up over her shoulder, brows furrowed and telling. He grits his teeth. There's no time to be torn about this, and she's right: he barely needs convincing. His grip loosens, but he pulls her in just long enough to speak, firmly. ]
—Do not lose sight of me. [ If they're going to do this outrageously stupid thing, they need to do it together. He dashes back past the trees, towards the shore, though he can only shield Flayn from the rain by a fraction. ]
no subject
So she nods.]
I will not.
[...and with that, they go.
Flayn follows along behind him. He isn't able to shield her from all of the storm, or even from most of the storm - but having been running in on her own just moments before, she can tell that there is a bit of a difference, and she resolves to thank him once this is over.
There's another crashing wave against the shoreline, and Maomao's body is dragged further out to sea. She sucks in a breath, and then calls out -]
We may need to swim to reach her, at this rate!

He's knocked back by the water as they approach, bolstered by the storm. His feet find no purchase in the silt, and he stumbles back, only stopping short of bowling Flayn over. His eyes dip briefly to her. ] Retreat to shore the moment you—
[ A crack of lightning flares off in the distance, and he cuts himself off with a gnash of his teeth, treading into the water as the waves grow more turbulent by the minute. ]
no subject
The ocean is freezing as they crash into it, and she shivers, but doesn't voice her discomfort - if she does, she might be sent back for her own safety, and she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she didn't at least try to help here. Biting down on her lower lip, she raises an arm to partially shield her face and forges ahead behind Dimitri.
--and then beside him.
Maomao's body is already further out to see than she had realized.
She sucks in a breath, then forces herself to run forward. Her movement is made slower by the wind and the waves, but once she's deep enough, she throws herself into the water to swim for the corpse.]
no subject
He doesn't even know if he believes that she's alive, or just chasing after nothing, but he gets a body length ahead of Flayn, trying to keep in mind where she is and where the body floats, tuning out the storm and sound above them, tossing out an arm to grab at Maomao before she can slip into the sea—
But the rain is stronger, and he's not even sure they make it close before it lashes back at them, a wave crashing over their heads. Yet another knocks them back in a whorl of water, and by the time he's coughing up a mouthful of water, he feels his back scrape across the sand, tossed back ashore. When he blinks the salt and rain from his eyes, he's looking for Flayn, not Maomao. ]
no subject
But then a wave crashes over them, and there isn't even enough time to shout a warning before they're both submerged and knocked back roughly. Which is probably for the best. A mouthful of ocean water would turn into a lung full of ocean water, and that could quickly become deadly.
Even without shouting, she still ends up swallowing more water than she would like as she struggles to get her head above the water. She doesn't manage it until the wave tosses them both ashore, and she turns onto her side, coughing violently to clear her throat of the water.
She, uh, she needs a minute.
Meanwhile, Maomao's body continues to bob on the waves - a spectacular failure on both their parts.]
