week two: trial

WEEK TWO: TRIAL

Morning dawns bright and early the day after the announcement of the dead, and as the sun tracks its way across the sky, the voice's message is likely not far from anyone's mind. Friends are still missing, people are still dead, and time is running out.

Finally, the sun reaches its highest point. A low, deep thrumming sound echoes throughout the entire island, which turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.

It is then that the lighthouse beacon becomes illuminated, drawing them all to the southern beach. That same voice as before rings, audible throughout the entire island.

"There are those of you who hope to escape from this with clean hands...you may find yourselves successful. Will it be worth it? You are all participants in this game, and you will all be complicit in the sacrifices that take place here, or else you will not have earned your passage home. Twenty-four hours remain before the ritual must be completed, or you will all suffer the consequences. There is no consolation prize for less than eleven sacrifices.

You have until the sun vanishes beneath the horizon. Choose your next sacrifice, and choose who will dispatch them. Speak the names of your choices into the conch. Failure to cooperate will result in a fate worse than death.

...perhaps you should investigate the deaths. The bodies are out there, and the evidence as well... but you will have to find it yourselves.

...oh, and one more thing. There is a way to save yourselves...if you select the right sacrifice.

Tick-tock, tick-tock! Your time starts... now."

Once the entire group has gathered, the lighthouse's beacon flickers out.

It is time to choose the next sacrifice... and hopefully, to catch a killer.

OOC NOTES

Welcome to your last trial, everyone! This trial will take place from 9am PST/12pm EST/4am NZST, and will last until 6pm PST/9pm EST/1pm NZST.

There will be a one-hour trial break from 1pm PST/4pm EST/8am NZST to 2pm PST/5pm EST/9am NZST. We recommend that you use this time to get something to eat if you haven't yet already, play some Animal Crossing, or even just take a quick nap. During this time, no mod tags will go out; we also ask that players refrain from starting any intensive threads such as interrogations, strip searches, hair or injury comparisons, etc. While we're not going to say you're not allowed to tag during this time, we also don't want anyone to miss out on anything important during an official break.

Please remember to have your character cast a vote on the voting page! Voting is mandatory, as it functions as the activity check for the game. If you do not cast a vote by the time trial is over, your character will be killed off. Please contact the mods prior to the end of the trial if something comes up and you are prevented from voting (i.e. 504 errors, etc).

panic! at the waterfall camp

[ enter two girls, pursued by a dead body they're dragging in by a sleeping bag. once they get back, rachel is dropping it with a sigh. ]

So, obviously, we found Akane. She was at the base of the waterfall, but not... as impaled as Marie, at least. Minako also found C3PO's eye down there? So I'm thinking that whatever happened to him started at the waterfall and the rest of him washed out to sea.

The camp itself was pretty normal. Lots of tracks coming and going, so there wasn't a whole lot to go off of. I checked Flayn's tent, and found all this...

[ rachel gestures to the two canteens she's carrying, and a staff that might look familiar to a few people! she'll hand the latter off to dimitri. ]

Nothing looked super out of the ordinary? Except for the two canteens. I don't know what's in them - one didn't smell like anything, and the other just smelled like vomit. I didn't want to try to taste test in case one of these is how Flayn got poisoned. So... Does anyone know where she would've gotten a second canteen?

Two canteens? Dude, does that mean someone guilty is missing one, or did they take someone else's?

I don't know. We lost enough people last week that Flayn or whoever could have easily grabbed another one. It would help if anyone knew if she took herself or not.

Should we ask everyone to show us what they have? The deceased's belongings should still be in their camps, too, unless someone took them.

We may wish to do that anyway, but the second canteen is likely mine. I gave it to her yesterday because she was feeling ill.

No. We thought bringing her body over might be a tiny bit more important, you know?

Just keep in mind - there were a lot of tracks out there. It's hard to tell which set belonged to who, so there might not be a lot to go off of.

I think that if Flayn-chan was poisoned slowly throughout the week, probably just a little sip wouldn't hurt too much...?

I mean, I don't know any other ways to check it... Unless someone wants to find a mouse or something.

Maybe, but would we even know if it's poisoned from just one sip if it doesn't do anything?

Let's avoid poisoning ourselves, just in case. Is the water clear?

We don't even know that it's poison though! That's the problem.

If it smelled like barf, then she probably threw up right after she drank some! Or she could have just barfed in the canteen if she was trying to hide how sick she was.

Come on, man, don't drink someone's barf. That's gross.

[ WELL THAT'S TERRIBLE...... but. ]

I hate to agree, but I don't know how else we can quickly test this. [ ... ] The second canteen has fresh river water that I drew up that day, for comparison.

And Flayn-chan kept that one with her the entire time? No chance someone stole it and added something to it?

[ if that's true, then the canteen with poison should be... ]

She only had it for the evening, but yes, I believe it should still be clean. As for her own... [ it's possible it's been tainted all week, if the canteen really is the culprit here. ] She thought she may have been sick, and only used that canteen for herself. So it would have been a convenient vehicle to poison her with.
