WEEK TWO: TRIAL
Morning dawns bright and early the day after the announcement of the dead, and as the sun tracks its way across the sky, the voice's message is likely not far from anyone's mind. Friends are still missing, people are still dead, and time is running out.
Finally, the sun reaches its highest point. A low, deep thrumming sound echoes throughout the entire island, which turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.
It is then that the lighthouse beacon becomes illuminated, drawing them all to the southern beach. That same voice as before rings, audible throughout the entire island.
Once the entire group has gathered, the lighthouse's beacon flickers out.
It is time to choose the next sacrifice... and hopefully, to catch a killer.
Good luck.

"There are those of you who hope to escape from this with clean hands...you may find yourselves successful. Will it be worth it? You are all participants in this game, and you will all be complicit in the sacrifices that take place here, or else you will not have earned your passage home. Twenty-four hours remain before the ritual must be completed, or you will all suffer the consequences. There is no consolation prize for less than eleven sacrifices.
You have until the sun vanishes beneath the horizon. Choose your next sacrifice, and choose who will dispatch them. Speak the names of your choices into the conch. Failure to cooperate will result in a fate worse than death.
...perhaps you should investigate the deaths. The bodies are out there, and the evidence as well... but you will have to find it yourselves.
...oh, and one more thing. There is a way to save yourselves...if you select the right sacrifice.
Tick-tock, tick-tock! Your time starts... now."
Once the entire group has gathered, the lighthouse's beacon flickers out.
It is time to choose the next sacrifice... and hopefully, to catch a killer.
Good luck.
OOC NOTES
Welcome to your last trial, everyone! This trial will take place from 9am PST/12pm EST/4am NZST, and will last until 6pm PST/9pm EST/1pm NZST.
There will be a one-hour trial break from 1pm PST/4pm EST/8am NZST to 2pm PST/5pm EST/9am NZST. We recommend that you use this time to get something to eat if you haven't yet already, play some Animal Crossing, or even just take a quick nap. During this time, no mod tags will go out; we also ask that players refrain from starting any intensive threads such as interrogations, strip searches, hair or injury comparisons, etc. While we're not going to say you're not allowed to tag during this time, we also don't want anyone to miss out on anything important during an official break.
Please remember to have your character cast a vote on the voting page! Voting is mandatory, as it functions as the activity check for the game. If you do not cast a vote by the time trial is over, your character will be killed off. Please contact the mods prior to the end of the trial if something comes up and you are prevented from voting (i.e. 504 errors, etc).
If you have any questions, please go ahead and ask! Your mods and fellow players are always here to help. And most of all... have fun!

anything particular to note? can he tell if the scorch marks were made by your typical handmade torch or something a bit more pre-made than homemade? ]
Don't overlook anything.
[ says the two of us but who knows if that'll actually happen or not.... ]
no subject
A knife.
The sun was just glinting on the blade. Enjoy your new knife, Yusuke. It looks just like the one you got in your camping kit. :)
Giyuu, meanwhile, will first spot... something that looks like a voodoo doll. It's made of yarn, rather than straw, and is looking pretty scorched. The scorchmarks don't really look like they came from a blowtorch - more like from an explosion of some kind.
A ways behind it, there's a scorched-looking seashell and a scorched-looking rock with a '3' carved into it... and something blue and sparkling, just at the edge of the waterfall. Hmm.]
no subject
This looks like one of the knives we were provided with... I admit, I'm somewhat unsurprised it was used for apparent harm rather than its intended purpose.
[ time to head back over to giyuu -- whatcha found there dad? ]
no subject
A doll of some sorts.
[ does he know what voodoo is? the answer is no. though he frowns at the discovery a knife. shocking but also...not so shocking. ]
And a knife is a tool. It can be used to kill fish and cut up what it needs to.
[ though that said, he is going to pick up the scorched rock and shell to see if there are any further things that he can examine from them. boy i wish he knew what the "3" meant but he doesn't and instead just looks at it weird.
after picking that those things up, he's going to wander towards the sparkling thing. ]
no subject
The rock and shell look ... like a rock and a shell that have been scorched.
As for the sparkling thing...
It's a crystal. It's slightly warm to the touch, and about half of it is charred.
Also, there's a crunch underfoot as they wander toward each other - Giyuu's stepped on a bit of glass, and Yusuke has stepped on some bits of metal.]
no subject
[ maybe someone was lonely at sleepy time. or more likely not.
when he hears the cronch, yusuke'll stop and lean down to get a better look at the metal -- is it c3po coloured? ]
no subject
[ dolls, he means. he's an artist so maybe it's an art thing? please help him yusuke.
but while yusuke is investigating the cronch, it's time for giyuu to pick up more things and examine them with hopes that it might be something he might be able to recognize or know what it is. unfortunately....it isn't.
still, he handles it and holds it to the light for a moment before attempting to get yusuke's attention. ]
Does this crystal seem familiar to you?
no subject
most of the bits are a light silver color, and some are a blackish color. there's one bit htat looks like a red button. they're all somewhat charred.
enjoy the pretty crystal, guys! it's ... pretty.]
no subject
Dolls? Not particularly. I have not made any, and I have never chosen to paint on as an artist piece. [ his response is a little distracted, as he scoops up some of the metal fragments and the button pieces before straightening up to look at the crystal.
hm.
pretty. ]
No. [ he's back to looking around for anything they might have missed ] I haven't seen it before. Have you?
no subject
i mean a press it with your thumb button]
no subject
Do you not like dolls?
[ because that's a fair question to ask, right? ]
...but no. [ well, regardless it's going into his haori now. ] It's warm.
no subject
looking around, yusuke will spot some more charred rocks, a charred stone, and some scorched flowers, but... that's about it up here!]
no subject
[ lovely. time to take their junk back to the others? ]
no subject
I have no particular feeling towards them. [ hmm. ] It would be strange if anyone gifted me one.
[ you need friends first, though, giyuu. ]
If there's nothing else, we should hurry back.
