weekend zero: intro
SHIPWRECKED
The roar of the sea fills your ears - and then your eyes, mouth, and nose, as violent waves crash over you. The taste of salt brushes past your lips and as you propel yourself through the chillingly cold water, you see other people adrift and pieces of debris rolling through the harsh, large waves.
Ahead of you in the distance, a rotating light flickers in and out of sight. As you fight your way through the tumultuous current, limbs growing weary, your feet soon brush against the sandy bottom of the ocean. Will you reach the land? Or will the waves consume you?
For those of you who fight your way to the shore, you'll find yourself dragging yourself onto an island, miles wide and as far as the eye can see. The terrain is a bit difficult to navigate, and without a map you'll have to explore on your own. Luckily, you aren't alone. Several others begin to pull themselves out of the water, drenched and lost and confused. The paths around you lead to various parts of the island, but no matter how far you look you'll find no other signs of life.
Perhaps it's best to take a look at your surroundings. You may even find something of yours hidden away at one of the camps. But that seems impossible, doesn't it? How could your belongings arrive before you did?
...that's a mystery for another day. Welcome aboard.

OOC NOTES
Welcome to your intro mingle! This log is primarily for your characters to get to know each other, and to get familiar with the island they have found themselves on.
At this time, you can begin submitting private conversations should your characters choose to have them. Be sure to mass add everyone's journals first so you can set up your filters.
A standard weekly mingle will go up on Monday, at which point your characters will learn more about the reason they've washed up here. Your characters will have the opportunity to interact with the island more extensively at that time. For now, have fun - and try to stay alive until then!

b, this is definitely going to miss but i'm gomen
It only gets worse when a sudden movement lights up in his peripheral, white and black against a forest of green. Dimitri's shoulders jump up in surprise, which is a perfectly measured reaction. He also throws his knife at the blur, which is less reasonable, but. It's been a long day. Things happen.
Almost as an afterthought, he calls out, ]
Who's there—!?
i knew this was going to happen its okay
oops. ah.... it's unusual for him to be noticed so easily. maybe he's sloppy... this has been a very long day. after a beat of silence, a figure emerges from the foilage--a young man, with that eerie white and black mask over his face. he folds both of his hands together and bows his head, staying silent. please forgive me, i didn't mean to startle you. ]
no subject
It does nothing to comfort his nerves—at a glance, his mind's eye sees another mask, red swirled over white—but as his surprise cools, this man's body language is obviously and universally apologetic. He gathers himself, standing straight before he speaks. ]
And you are?
no subject
...I was scouting out the territory. I apologize for startling you.
no subject
You would apologize to a man who very nearly stabbed you?
[ That's very generous.... but he shakes his head. ]
There's no need. [ ... ] If anything, I should be the one saying sorry to you.
no subject
[ this comes out more deadpan. it's really not, actually. working for hua cheng requires an exorbitant amount of danger--nothing he can't handle, but when your boss is known as one of the four great calamities, the ghost king, there's a certain type of nastiness that seems to go with it.
he nods his head to the apology on his end, then turns to look at the knife, still embedded in the tree. he probably wants this, so, he pulls it out, folding it shut, and hops off of the branch and down to the ground, holding it out to him. ]
no subject
In the end, he decides on this: drum up some pleasantness, and gesture towards some small fish he's left on sticks by the riverside. ]
Oh, please, help yourself. [ they're still raw.. but..... anyway, ] What sort of dangerous work do you do, to shrug off a blade so easily?
no subject
okay, well. he glances to the fish, then nods, giving a brief bow of his head. he can at least clean them--after a moment, yin yu takes one and settles down with his own small knife, crouching near the water's edge as he considers his answer. ] I do a little bit of everything.
[ that's the easiest way to describe it...and also answers nothing. he affixes, after a moment, a little sweaty. ] The place I live is a bit dangerous. [ A BIT? ] I suppose I help to protect it, in some ways.
no subject
I see... does that make you something like a knight?
[ Maybe more like a guard, but may as well shoot high first. ]
no subject
Ah--no, no, nothing like that. [ goodness... he hasn't been deserving of that kind of title in a very long time!! yin yu focuses on his fish cleaning, doing the task methodically, but is willing to loose a few more details. ] I do whatever Hua Chengzhu requires. Sometimes that just means patrolling the city, but sometimes I do paperwork, or scout outside of the city, too. Sometimes it's just bringing in dinner. It's nothing special.
[ he's the very definition of a jack of all trades, master of none.... ]
no subject
Then, are you perhaps this Hua Chengzhu's retainer?
[ He's not familiar with the name, but by now it's evident that Fódlan is far beyond the ocean. Perhaps this man came from another noble home, one he's never heard of. ]
no subject
Something more along those lines. [ they're definitely not of any sort of remotely equal rank, that's for sure. yin yu's quite content with his invisible minimum wage worker life nowadays. ] It's not particularly uncommon for him to have me complete missions for him such as this. [ with a gesture at the island around them.
...but, he pauses. ] Though it's incredibly unusual for him to do so with no contact or explanation. [ but
he also really wouldn't put it past hua cheng to just drop him on a deserted island and be like "good luck" if he was distracted enough.... though he can't imagine why he would do it now of all times, so there's that. ]
no subject
It would not surprise me if he didn't send you here at all... I cannot fathom why I would have agreed to make this journey myself.
[ Surely he would remember signing up for a deserted island cruise alone.
Whatever the case may be, they've all been separated from people important from them. Retainers from their lords, lords from their retainers. He looks up from the river, offering a sympathetic look. ]
He must be worried for you.
