week one: trial
WEEK ONE: TRIAL
Morning dawns bright and early the day after the announcement of the dead, and as the sun tracks its way across the sky, the voice's message is likely not far from anyone's mind. The fire in the ruins still burns, though as the minutes tick by into hours, the flames slowly begin to subside.
Finally, the sun reaches its highest point just as the flames in the ruins sputter out. A low, deep thrumming sound echoes throughout the entire island, which turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.
It is then that the lighthouse beacon becomes illuminated, drawing them all to the southern beach. That same voice as before rings, audible throughout the entire island.
Once the entire group has gathered, the lighthouse's beacon flickers out.
It is time to choose the next sacrifice... and hopefully, to catch a killer.
Good luck.

"There are those of you who hope to escape from this with clean hands... well, I suggest you discard those hopes. You are all participants in this game, and you will all be complicit in the sacrifices that take place here, or else you will not have earned your passage home.
You have until the sun vanishes beneath the horizon. Choose your next sacrifice, and choose who will dispatch them. Speak the names of your choices into the conch. Failure to cooperate will result in a fate worse than death.
...perhaps you should investigate the deaths. Would it ease your conscience to condemn someone to death whose hands are already stained with the blood of a sacrifice? The bodies are out there, and the evidence as well... but you will have to find it yourselves.
Tick-tock, tick-tock! Your time starts... now."
Once the entire group has gathered, the lighthouse's beacon flickers out.
It is time to choose the next sacrifice... and hopefully, to catch a killer.
Good luck.
OOC NOTES
Welcome to your first trial, everyone! This trial will take place from 9am PST/12pm EST/4am NZST, and will last until 6pm PST/9pm EST/1pm NZST.
There will be a one-hour trial break from 1pm PST/4pm EST/8am NZST to 2pm PST/5pm EST/9am NZST. We recommend that you use this time to get something to eat if you haven't yet already, play some Animal Crossing, or even just take a quick nap. During this time, no mod tags will go out; we also ask that players refrain from starting any intensive threads such as interrogations, strip searches, hair or injury comparisons, etc. While we're not going to say you're not allowed to tag during this time, we also don't want anyone to miss out on anything important during an official break.
Please remember to have your character cast a vote on the voting page! Voting is mandatory, as it functions as the activity check for the game. If you do not cast a vote by the time trial is over, your character will be killed off. Please contact the mods prior to the end of the trial if something comes up and you are prevented from voting (i.e. 504 errors, etc).
If you have any questions, please go ahead and ask! Your mods and fellow players are always here to help. And most of all... have fun!

[He assumes, given that reaction. Ogata knows nothing about robots but he does know about machines a little bit and in his experience, they don't really do well with water.
That said he's also mean and unsympathetic so he's immediately distracted by the weird purple goop puddles so he's going to investigate those instead of helping C-3PO. Sad.]
no subject
Upon closer inspection, the purple goop puddles... appear to be vomit. They smell pretty dang gross as he lowers his face enough to get a closer look. That would explain why there was something half-digested under their feet on the way here!]
no subject
C-3PO-san, what is it?!
[ she'll jog towards his last bearing, taking care to step around any puddles and potential evidence and...
oh. hi Isabelle.
unless C-3PO gets there first, Minako's going to kick her socks and shoes off and plunge into the river to grab the body. awesome, she doesn't want this.
... one of her socks probably falls in the goop though. just because. ]
no subject
Oh, Miss Minako, do be careful! Who knows what's in there??
[While on the ground, he had spotted the other item wash up on the shore, so he shuffles (carefully this time!) over to go pick it up.]
no subject
Well, there's a body. [That's one thing in there.]
Maybe more vomit. That's what these puddles are.
[He continues to look around the shore. Are any of those chunks identifiable? Esp the purple one since it seems like it's colored the rest of the gross stuff here.]
no subject
As for C-3PO, the item that's washed up is... a very soggy party popper! It's still unused, though.
Like the earlier comment said, the puddles near the river don't contain chunks; they disappear the further they get from the beach and the closer they get to the river. However, further upstream - closer to the bridge - they'll find another puddle.
This one is larger, and contains those purple chunks again. Probably some kind of fruit? It also contains an assortment of flesh from half-digested fruits, and some mostly-digested traces of meat.
Gross.]
no subject
she really hates this. ]
Oh, Isabelle...
[ guess she's assigned Body Carrier now. she'll wade back to shore with Isabelle and just. go look for her socks and shoes. yeah. ]
no subject
If you'd prefer, Miss Minako, I can carry Miss Isabelle back to the others. I know it can be difficult for organics to cope with such things.
[He holds out his arms for one little doggy to be placed in]
Also, if it's alright, Master Dimitri had requested measurements and cataloging of the footprints near the lighthouse. It won't take me long to record them.
[If possible, Threepio will make his way back passing the lighthouse and scan over all the footprints coming and going from the lighthouse to see if he can identify how many different sets, and their approximate sizes (it being sand and all)]
no subject
He's just heading back up the slope, apparently leading the group now.]
There's nothing unusual in the stomach contents that I can tell. Once you catalog the footprint we should head back.
[Turns out solving a murder is hard!]
no subject
Anyway, back to the group they go. Unfortunately, given their investigation of the lighthouse and people coming back and forth to bury and un-bury Anaido, it's not really possible to get any new information about the footprints because there's a lot of footprints there now. What you have already is what you've got to work with.]
