week two: mingle

WEEK TWO
The sun rises after a treacherous weekend on the island. The hours have passed almost seamlessly since your arrival, though it's difficult to say what time it truly is. You've buried the dead and mourned for them. You've formed alliances and staked your claims. You've survived another week...isn't that what counts?

Regardless of how you spend your morning, as the sun reaches the highest point in the sky all will begin to hear a low, deep thrumming sort of sound. The humming slowly turns into ringing, a drawn-out signal that grows louder and louder until it seems as though all other sounds on the island fall to a hush.

It's then all will hear an unidentifiable voice:

"Ah...so glad to see you alive and well. Your numbers are dwindling, but perhaps not fast enough. You have one more week before all shall be lost. Eleven sacrifices must be made to ensure the survival of those remaining. Extensions will not be granted.

Oh...and one more thing. One of you has played your part well to orchestrate the ritual. I do wonder what would happen if you were caught? Perhaps you will find out soon...if they catch you."

Just as quickly as it came, the announcement comes to a close. No matter how hard one searches the island, it will be impossible to locate the source of the announcement. But don't let that stop you. Maybe it's time for a deeper exploration? Make the best of your daylight hours.

After all...when the night falls, things may be a little different. Watch your backs, everyone.
OOC NOTES
Welcome to week two! Congratulations on surviving the weekend, and welcome to the final week!

At this time, characters are free to further explore the island! Please use the Week 2 header for all Week 2 requests. All comments will be screened, but please be as thorough as possible in your requests. We also ask that if you change anything in the setting, please report it here.

On Wednesday, your modteam will post A THING that will impact all in-game. Stay tuned.

Much like last week, please specify if your prompts are in the day or during the night on this mingle! This may be in your header, or you may specify in your comment itself. There may be a fun surprise or two waiting for you.

And finally, please be sure to submit any week one PCs to the appropriate subthread on the PC page, and please be sure to submit week two PCs as they're created!

Please feel free to ask questions in the question channel on Discord, or you may DM Britt & Ty privately. We will also have announcements regarding curfew and body announcement on Thursday and Friday. Thank you, and have fun!

[very good and very sweet Flayn]

I'm sorry to say that I've become more familiar with it in recent years, given how often I've been damaged. It's a miracle I'm still functioning.

[He slowly lowers himself down from the bridge on surprisingly steady arms, the pistons that connect his upper and lower arms letting out the smooth whoosh of compressed air.

Once sitting, he places the leg and (now shut off) fusioncutter on the ground near Flayn.]

It should be a simple repair, the metal simply needs to be fused back together close enough to allow the armature nerves to reknit. I'll of course need to shut down for a while afterward so my systems can take over.

[This is definitely going to be an Experience. Flayn reaches for the fusioncutter, her hand trembling slightly - maybe she's just unsure about how to use the tool?

Her fingers curl around the handle and she takes a breath as she lifts it up.]

So I should... point this at where your leg needs to be reconnected, and then press the button. Is that so?

Precisely! There should be a point here where it lines up.

[He indicates a curved section of the upper thigh that matches the circular portion at the top of his disconnected shin.]

Just at the intermotor actuating coupler here, if you'd be so kind.

[He has complete and utter faith in Flayn's welding abilities, it seems]

[Bold of him to assume she knows what an intermotor actuating coupler is.

He has way more faith in Flayn's abilities than he should, but she nods, looking determined, and brings the fusioncutter to the point he's indicated. Her hands are trembling, though, and she can't hold it steady.

She makes a soft, frustrated noise in the back of her throat.]

Are all these types of tools so heavy...?

[It really isn't that heavy compared to the weapons she normally would be carting around back home, but... Maybe she's out of practice.]

looks at trial future :(

[Watching the procedure, he notices her hands and looks up to her face, his voice concerned]

Are you alright, Miss Flayn? You seem a bit unwell.
fishingforcompliments: (009)

a tragedy :(

[personal profile] fishingforcompliments 2020-05-09 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Flayn shakes her head.]

...I am fine, I assure you. Simply... unfamiliar with this manner of tool. Please give me a moment.

[She takes another breath, then grips the handle tightly enough to force her hands to stop shaking.]

There. All right, prepare yourself...!

[time to FIRE IT UP.]
machinetranslation: (broke)

this'll be fine!

[Threepio gives her a concerned look (which I guess is most of his looks with his permanently worried browline), worrying more for her health than anything.

On activation, a fiercely bright point of heat and energy generates on the very tip of the tool. Flayn, uh, probably shouldn't look directly into it. However, the tool itself is steady and light.

If she looks closer at the spot Threepio pointed out for welding, she'll be able to see some light scorch marks where he was (badly) attempting a self-repair. It's probably enough of a visual guideline for where she should be welding, though, assuming she can following the line of the seam better than Threepio was.]
fishingforcompliments: (019)

will it, though.......

[personal profile] fishingforcompliments 2020-05-10 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a good thing he's got those scorch marks as a guide! Flayn grits her teeth and gets to work, following along it, and against all odds manages to weld it back on without blinding herself.

(The only reason she hasn't blinded herself is I didn't tag this quickly enough for her to do it before I started tagging threads that were set after it.)

Anyway, it's not the best repair job in the world, because she is by no means a mechanic, but it'll do. This shoddy repair work is probably why he's ending up in pieces later on.]

...there... did that do the trick?
machinetranslation: (oh dear oh dear)

[personal profile] machinetranslation 2020-05-14 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Very well done, Miss Flayn! Oh, thank you!

[He slowly raises the leg up and experimentally bends it back and forth. The mechanical sounds are a bit louder, more strained than before, and during one test bend there's a slightly worrying scrape of metal-on-metal, but the leg stays in one piece.]

With your permission, I will now simply need to power down so the automated internal repair systems can engage.

[...that's worrying as all hell, C-3PO.

But it sounds like he has a plan to deal with it. When he powers down, it's like he's going to sleep - and when he wakes up, he'll be... almost as good as new.

Flayn nods.]

That is fine - with your permission, I will stay here to watch over you and make sure nothing happens while you are resting.

[If there's another storm she'll haul him back to camp or something.]
